Waterfall and Over

Spring is back! It was eminently enjoyable after a stressful few months to just sit on a blanket in the baskable sun and feel the warmth on my skin.

Donated my hair again, much shorter than I've had it in ages. Looks very poofy and professional the way the salon did it.

Life is stressful, this we know. Lately it's been more than normally so for me. Full of medical concerns for my family, full of financial concerns for the same, and trying to find a place to buy with the boyfriend. I started this blog because I needed an outlet for emotions, ideas, and my imagination. I don't know how much longer I will continue writing about my life or events in it, but I will probably keep posting snippets of fiction, poetry, and other creations for as long as I have them.

Take care all!

To Weddings, Parties, Disasters, and Life

A quick summation of my last 3 months:
- To Panama and back again, having so much fun!
- More work on Tabby, and now she needs a new air compressor, like, yesterday.
- One bachelorette party, one bridal shower, one wedding, all down!
- One bachelorett party, one rehearsal, one wedding, to go.
- One painful glandular/jaw-related infection.
- New computer, though glitchy, now has its wireless problems fixed.
- Haven't been hiking in ages.
- New camera beloved by all.
- Saw 4th of July fireworks from 5 blocks from my house, since they were on the west side of the Hudson (thanks, Henry!) this time.
- Raj-paj got married!
- What, that's not enough to have happened? You want more?

Fine. House in CT is almost done being remodeled!

Timely Soundtrack: "Vida es Un Carnaval" by Celia Cruz off of Mi Vida es Cantar.
Quote Trapped in My Head: None.
What I Learned Today: I hate honey mustard flavored things.

Horror, Hope, Hugs, and Hedonism

Four things that have taken up my time lately:
1. Enjoying several Horror and Action movies.
a. 30 Days of Night - Why do the vampires waste so much blood? Didn't really see the twist ending coming.
b. Resident Evil: Extinction - Eh, it was all right.
c. Crazy Eights, part of Horrorfest 2007. - Just didn't have enough meat to the story or to the "evil thing" to get the job done.
2. Thinking about the results of my mother's biopsy.
3. New anime series (several) and...
4. Battlestar Galactica, starting from the beginning. Normally I can take or leave Sci-Fi shows, especially those set in space, but the acting of the entire cast pretty much rocks.
That's about it.

I Have This Gift To Bring

One Year
I made for my family
on Christmas morn early
a magnificent dreamcatcher
glimmering with the dark eyes
of peacock feathers and laughing
with the tinkling of beads.
Its cord was stretched taught
over a tarnished metal hoop

I laid it out carefully
under the tree
shaking with cold and anticipation

Another Year
I brought from the haze of Buenos Aires
an old peso, no longer in circulation,
its Sun face a bright gold,
a proud "1" displayed.
Quartered and attached
to four black strings: you could
pull it apart to make four sharp
necklaces to scratch the unwary

My father's hangs on his briefcase
Mine from my unused keychain
I have not seen the other two since

This Year
I bring them four plates
in the "Talavera" style from Puebla
newpaper-wrapped and carried in
a bag whose strap dug into my shoulder.
Green with fancy edges for papá
Blue and traditional for mamá
Sunflowers and lilies for mi hermana
And the sun and moon for mí misma

Let the food lie plentiful on these plates
and easy in their stomachs
for the rest of their lives.

They have grown used to my
unexpected gifts,
oddly prophetic as they are -
I know that a chance encounter
with any strange item
will make them think of me.
