Winter for the Win!

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!! Winter is here! *Cue funky boogie-down music.*
Or maybe more like odd icicles melting musically with whimsical chimes music. Either way, it's time for long prowling nights for nocturnal creatures, frigid temperatures for the cold-blooded, and snow for the well-camouflaged white beings.

Timely Soundtrack: "Song for a Winter's Night" by Sarah McLachlan.
Quote Trapped in My Head: "Black are my steps on silver sod;
Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
And tree and house, and hill and lake,
Are frosted like a wedding-cake." - from "Winter-Time" by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Flickr Sets Set to Poems

Or vice versa. Now several poems of the type that inspire things have their own photo sets on Flickr. Check out the few I've done so far. Also visible on each poem's page and on the Poetry Monster.

Close for Comfort

Things I Wish Someone Would Do For Me

Because I love surprises so much...

-Leave a present in my apartment as a surprise for when I get home.
-Make a playlist and sneak it onto my computer or my iPod.
-Write a really stupid joke with "I love you" as the punchline.
-Organize my photos and make a scrapbook of my life.
-Make waffles and deliver them to my bedside.
-Read my poems and give me feedback.
-Ignore the really awful poetry I've written.
-Scrub out my tub - yeah, no getting around this one, have to buckle down and do it.
-Watch a series I like as a surprise.
-Tell me good news.
-Smile when I sing.

Timely Soundtrack: "Witch (Made to Measure)" by Clinic off of Do It.
What I Learned Today: Amber Benson has written a few books!

To Weddings, Parties, Disasters, and Life

A quick summation of my last 3 months:
- To Panama and back again, having so much fun!
- More work on Tabby, and now she needs a new air compressor, like, yesterday.
- One bachelorette party, one bridal shower, one wedding, all down!
- One bachelorett party, one rehearsal, one wedding, to go.
- One painful glandular/jaw-related infection.
- New computer, though glitchy, now has its wireless problems fixed.
- Haven't been hiking in ages.
- New camera beloved by all.
- Saw 4th of July fireworks from 5 blocks from my house, since they were on the west side of the Hudson (thanks, Henry!) this time.
- Raj-paj got married!
- What, that's not enough to have happened? You want more?

Fine. House in CT is almost done being remodeled!

Timely Soundtrack: "Vida es Un Carnaval" by Celia Cruz off of Mi Vida es Cantar.
Quote Trapped in My Head: None.
What I Learned Today: I hate honey mustard flavored things.

I Hate Luck

So, in the past few months, the following has happened:
-Had to replace brakes on Tabby.
-Closet shelves broke because I have too many clothes (no such thing!).
-Bed frame scared me by coming apart (no, I wasn't jumping on it).
-Stove unnerved me by seeming to break, but turned out to be all right.
-Realized it will take me forever to save up enough money for a down payment on a house.
-Got stuck in traffic every time I tried to take a new route to work - like today, when I got stopped by two accidents and a third trying to turn around and start over, using alternate roads.
-Just realized I don't have my banking info, so no direct deposit of tax return for me.
-Feel sick, stomach in knots, painful and nauseous.

Timely Soundtrack: None.
Quote Trapped in My Head: None.
What I Learned Today: I hate commuting.

Sad Hurricane

Sad when the hurricane
must make the choice
to censor its howling winds
clip its powerful wings.

And thus fade gracefully
wearing the mantle of normalcy
of love and decency, of shame
oppressive with heated cheeks.

Contrary to accepted legend
there was no temptation or
grand seduction cascading
into the last downfall

Rather a decision to slow down
let human fingers split your storm
shrug off immortal armor
permit mortals to love you

Not as worshipers from afar
prayed and pled at your command
but as equals, or nearly so
this requires a demise of myth

A return, a decrease, a downgrade
a self-desecration traded for love
Will you love the captured whirlwind
once it has lost its powers?

Weep for the hurricane, its eye
has dried its only tears.
